This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) governs how information is collected, used, and protected within the mobile application My Heritage & Ancestry (the “App”). By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy. If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
We may collect the following types of information:
- Photos or images uploaded by you for analysis;
- Device information, such as device type and operating system;
- Usage data, such as interactions within the App.
Face Data and TrueDepth Information
If you choose to use face-based features, including onboarding mask effects, on a supported device, the App may process facial geometry, face tracking, and depth data using Apple’s TrueDepth API. See Section 3A below for full details.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and operate the App’s features;
- Process uploaded photos to generate heritage-related results;
- Improve app performance and user experience.
3. Photos and Image Processing
Your uploaded photos are used solely to generate AI-based heritage visuals and interpretations.
Photos may be temporarily processed on secure servers to provide the requested functionality.
We do not use your photos for advertising and we do not sell them to third parties.
3A. Face Data and TrueDepth API
Our App may use Apple's TrueDepth camera and face tracking technologies during onboarding to apply a visual mask effect and improve user experience.
What Face Data We Collect
When this feature is used, the App processes:
- facial geometry data, such as face shape and feature positioning;
- face tracking information, such as movement and alignment of facial features;
- depth data from the TrueDepth camera on supported devices.
This data is used only in real time to enable the mask feature.
Purpose of Collection
Face Data is collected solely to:
- detect and track the user's face;
- correctly position and render the onboarding mask effect;
- improve visual accuracy of face-based features.
Storage and Retention
Face Data is processed locally on the device in real time and is not stored, saved, or transmitted to our servers as biometric identifiers.
Uploaded photos and generated results may be stored temporarily on secure servers only as necessary to provide the requested functionality and are deleted after a limited period of time.
Sharing of Face Data
We do not share Face Data with any third parties.
Face Data is not used for advertising, marketing, analytics, profiling, or user identification.
User Control
Use of this feature is optional. Camera access is requested by iOS and can be denied at any time in device settings.
4. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal data.
We may share limited data only:
- With trusted service providers strictly necessary to operate the App;
- If required by law.
These providers are not allowed to use your data for their own purposes.
5. Data Retention
We retain data only for as long as necessary to provide the App’s functionality.
Uploaded images and generated content are stored temporarily and deleted after processing is complete or within a reasonable timeframe.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data.
